Resale segment buoyant

The Nation ERA Franchise (Thailand), a real-estate brokerage, predicts the resale-home market will grow by 10 per cent to Bt100 billion this year. "The second-hand home market outlook in the second half of this year will be better than that in the first half," chairman Voradej Sivathechanont said yesterday. He said this was a result of the economic recovery and the government's extension of the waiver of property taxes and fees for buying second-hand residences. Moreover, he said the resale market this year is expected to record Bt100 billion, mainly driven by speculation seeking a higher return on investment than that offered by the stock market. Deposit interest rates are also at a very low level. "The resale-home business is still attractive, having grown at an average of 10 to 15 per cent per annum over five consecutive years," said Voradej, adding that second-hand homes are normally at least 10 to 20 per cent cheaper than new housing. Riding on the rising resale segment, he said ERA Franchise (Thailand) would boost its revenue this year to Bt2.2 billion by launching a new type of franchise business, making it easier for franchisees to conduct business with the support of its upgraded operating system. ERA targets increasing its market share from 5 per cent currently to 20 per cent, and the number of ERA Connect franchisees, which are in a company format, from 20 branches to 30 in the next three years. It aims to raise the number of ERA Express franchisees, which are in an individual format, from 1,635 persons to 5,000 in the same period.
