PACE unveils plans for Bangkok’s tallest building PDF Print E-mail
PACE Development and IBC, a subsidiary of the Fishman Group, have unveiled the inspirational design for MahaNakhon, a mixed-use tower development that could become an architectural icon in Bangkok´s CBD as well as the city´s tallest building.

MahaNakhon is a 77-storey tower created by internationally acclaimed architect Ole Scheeren, partner of the Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA), widely recognised for his work on the pioneering CCTV Building in Beijing.

With its distinctive sculptural appearance, MahaNakhon´s design creates a three-dimensional effect where portions of the glass curtain wall open up as if revealing the inside of the building.

Standing on more than 9 rai of land, the tower will be located directly adjacent to the Chongnonsi BTS Station, between Silom and Sathorn Roads.

The complex is Bangkok´s first major mixed-use development and includes MahaNakhon Square, a landscaped outdoor plaza; MahaNakhon Terraces, 10,000sqm of luxury lifestyle retail space with gardens and terraces spread over multiple levels; and a 24-hour marketplace with cafes and restaurants.

In addition, it will include The Ritz-Carlton Residences with 200 single-level and duplex homes managed by The Ritz-Carlton. The units will offer owners 5-star amenities and interiors designed by David Collins.

The property will also be home to The Bangkok Edition, a signature boutique hotel with 150 hotel rooms. A collaboration between Marriott International and renowned hotelier Ian Schrager, it will boast a multi-level roof-top Sky Bar and restaurant 310m in height.

Sorapoj Techakraisri, CEO of PACE Development said the project was the result of a wish to do something for Bangkok that would have an enduring architectural impact on the city´s skyline.

“We see MahaNakhon as rising both literally as the city’s tallest building and symbolically rising to the challenge of representing Bangkok today,” he said.

Dalit Braun CEO of IBC said, “MahaNakhon will be a bold architectural landmark. IBC feels especially privileged to be part of this truly imaginative project.”

MahaNakhon is scheduled for completion in 2012
